Our Philosophy

At Axedale Kindergarten the children, families and educators have strong ties to our local community, priding ourselves on our role as active members and contributors. The kindergarten plays a dynamic and vital role within the Axedale community providing a strong sense of belonging and inclusion for all children and families.
As early childhood teachers, we are in the privileged position of being able to assist in creating a foundation for learning and creating the best outcomes for not only the children in our care but also their families and the community in which we live.

We recognise the important influence that families and carers have on a child’s life. In building trusting two-way relationships with the families we broaden our opportunities to enhance our understanding of the whole child and how we can better engage and support their wellbeing and learning journey.

We are respectful of everyone’s rights and develop positive connections by ensuring that all people and cultures are respected and welcome. Our open-door policy promotes authentic relationships and an open exchange of ideas between educators and families. Each child is ensured the same care and education regardless of ability, gender, ethnicity, culture or socio-economic background.

Respect, affection, acceptance and self-confidence are our daily goals for empowering each child. Children are unique and beautiful in their differences with each child having an individual personality and learning style. We follow an emergent curriculum adapting our program to the interests and strengths of children, always offering appropriate challenges for individual growth. It is our belief that education and care must be all inclusive, providing role modelling of pro-social skills when it comes to accepting differences in other people.

As teachers, it is vital that we regularly assess and evaluate to celebrate and support each child’s learning and development. Our programme reflects the principles, practices, and learning outcomes from VEYLDF, Belonging, Being & Becoming, and the National Quality Framework. These documents enable us to celebrate the uniqueness of each child and the group.

We recognise the importance of caring for the environment, teaching and encouraging the children sustainable practices. We feel that when children are immersed and involved from a very young age, they will develop a respectful disposition towards the world, helping to make it a better place to live.

At Axedale Kindergarten our goal is to empower confident and competent children who will have a joy for lifelong learning.

Bush Kindergarten Program

At Axedale Kindergarten we access the bush once a week with our three & four year old group of Kindergarten children. Currently the day in which we attend Bush Kinder is Wednesday, alternating to a Tuesday in Term 3. The site we use is kindly shared with us by Fosterville Mine, and we travel by bus to our Bush Kinder site. Our site is equipped with toileting facilities and all other relevant resources required to enjoy our Bush Kinder safely and comfortably. It really is a great experience!

Axedale KINDERGARTEN BUSH Program

At Axedale Kindergarten we access the bush once a week with our four year old group of Kindergarten children.   We attend every week alternating between a Wednesday and a Thursday.

The site we use is located across the road behind the kindergarten playground in the grounds of the old St Pauls Church located on Drake Street.  We are very fortunate to have access to the bathroom facilities of the church through the kind support of the Anglican Diocese of Bendigo – Rev. Terry Templer.
