At Huntly Kindergarten we value:
Nature play and bush kinder
Learning through play
Children as competent and capable learners
Independence and life skills
Partnerships with families and community involvement
Diversity and inclusion
Respectful relationships are the foundation of all learning and growth; they provide a sense of belonging, wellbeing and foster a positive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and safe. Positive relationships between families, educators and children are important for a child’s learning environment to help them feel safe, secure and supported.
Connection to nature is important for all children’s health and wellbeing. Nature play and our unique bush kinder program provides valuable time for children to walk, play and learn on Dja Dja Wurrung country, experience seasonal changes and grow to love, understand and care for the environment. We seek to nurture habits of sustainability through intentional teaching and modelling in order to preserve our natural resources for future generations.
Children learn best through play and social interactions, in a rich environment where they can investigate and enquire. Children make meaning from what they have observed from adults and peers; they explore and put into practice what they have learned. We support children’s learning through providing a program based on children’s interests and questions.
We believe children are capable and competent, able to construct knowledge with each other and educators. Educators have high expectations of children’s abilities, and we actively promote independent self-care.
We greatly value partnerships with families and appreciate their involvement in our program. Together we devise goals and a program that best suits the interests and developmental needs of each child.
Diversity is valued in every child, family and educator, as this is a place where all can belong. We respect the knowledge and experiences of the whole kinder community and treat everyone, whatever their ability, with respect and dignity. Educators work closely with early intervention professionals to meet the best outcomes for each child.
Huntly Kindergarten is a vibrant and important part of the Huntly community. We embrace this community and aim to connect with local groups. Huntly Kindergarten has forged strong connections with many feeder schools over the years and we work hard to provide each child the best transition to school. We advocate for children to be ready not just for school, but to be ready for life.
Huntly Bush Kindergarten Program
Our Bush Kinder site is located between Brunel St and the Midland Highway on land owned by Huntly Primary School. It is a lovely piece of bushland in the middle of Huntly within walking distance of Kinder.
We are very excited to be able to offer the Bush Kinder program to all children in their Kindergarten year at Huntly. Groups attend Bush Kinder during terms 2, 3 and 4 for 3-5 hrs on one of their kinder days.
Families are loaned waterproof pants and jackets purchased by our committee for use throughout the program, allowing children to experience nature play comfortably and delight in the discoveries each season brings.
Our Bush Kinder program strongly supports and enhances the philosophy of Huntly Kindergarten and offers a unique educational program of unstructured, uninterrupted nature play.
We believe our Bush Kinder program provides opportunities for children to connect, wonder, discover and belong on Dja Dja Wurrung country and we are proud that we promote the beginning of a life-long appreciation of nature and culture.
Families are invited and encouraged to participate in our bush kinder program and provide feedback and input into the program at any time.
