Applications are now open for the 2022 Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants.
All schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, Scouts, Girl Guides, youth and Junior Landcare groups in Victoria are eligible to apply, and grants of up to $5,000 are up for grabs!
What projects are eligible?
These grants are focused on Victoria’s biodiversity. Projects can be either on-ground, hands-on projects, or environmental learning or educational activities.
- Do you want to increase your school’s biodiversity? You could develop an indigenous gardens to create habitat for native birds and insects.
- Do you have a problem with weeds? You could get a grant for controlling and removing weeds, and working in collaboration with a local Landcare group, and to replant with local indigenous plants.
- Do you want to bring an expert on biodiversity to your school for a talk or take your students on an excursion? A biodiversity focused educational talk could be funded through this grants program.
- Do you have an existing project site or vacant area in your school? You could get a grant for a biodiversity focussed on-ground project that includes the design and installation of interpretive signage on the project.
- Is there a local site where students can go to learn about biodiversity and nature? You could get a grant for an excursion to a wildlife sanctuary or national park.
- Would you like to engage students in citizen science? You could monitor native birds or animals within your local area, and contribute to an existing citizen science program, such as the Atlas of Living Australia or Waterwatch.
This is the fifth year the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning has funded this program, and is providing funding up to $450,000 for these grants.
