Visitors to Echuca who want to find our Echuca South kindergarten will know they have arrived when they see the new multi-colored mural painted by children at the kindergarten alongside clients at Vivid disability services located next door.
The mural is made up of over 80 individual wooden pieces and is the result of a collaboration of many local businesses and volunteers, with funding from Campaspe Shire Council.
Children delighted in pointing at the individual creatures they helped to create at the recent unveiling event.
When early learners are part of something bigger than themselves and they work collaboratively, they experience a wide range of developmental, educational, and social benefits. This particular collaboration has also helped to foster a stronger sense of connection between Shine Bright and the broader community in Echuca.
Lee Power, Echuca South teacher at the time of the mural unveiling, said that as children interact with people from different backgrounds, ages and roles in the community, they build empathy and respect.
“This project has helped our children see themselves as valuable contributors to their community through meaningful participation in a ‘real world’ activity.
“Children are naturally curious and this kind of hands-on learning stimulates their level of inquiry and gives them something to be proud of every time they enter the kinder gates,” she said.
