Build your capacity to support children to develop resilience, confidence and respectful relationships.

We are excited to let you know that registrations are now open for the Department of Education and Training’s free Respectful Relationships professional learning for early childhood educators. A financial contribution towards backfill is also available for those attending.

Pre-School Field Officers are also encouraged to attend the training.

Respectful Relationships professional learning is available to up to 6,000 educators in Victorian government funded kindergarten programs state-wide from March 2019. The professional learning will support Victoria’s early childhood educators to promote respectful relationships, positive attitudes and behaviours within their integrated teaching approach, to enable children to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. Educators will also be trained in strengthening their capabilities on family violence response and referral.

Developed in collaboration with Monash University, the professional learning aligns with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and the National Quality Standard. It includes a two-hour online module and a one-day face-to-face workshop, which will cover:

  • Understanding, defining and exploring the dynamics of gender equality and family violence
  • Understanding and developing respectful relationships in early childhood
  • Supporting children to understand and manage their emotions through social competence and promoting inclusive learning environments in early childhood
  • Understanding family violence and the practical strategies for building support networks

Educators will receive certificates of completion for the training, to contribute towards professional learning requirements.

Registrations for 2019 workshops are now open. You can find out more about local dates and venues, and register for the training here. Backfill Claim Form can be downloaded here.

Registrations will close 14 days prior to each workshop date.

Please note, the backfill contribution (available for bachelor, diploma and certificate III qualified educators), is available by submitting the attached backfill claim form, along with a tax invoice to the Respectful Relationships Unit at the Department of Education and Training.
