Tongala Kindergarten Emu group celebrated National Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander Day with a camp fire in our Indigenous garden.

We started off with an Acknowledgment to country led my one of our 5 year old children and then sang songs, played musical instruments and toasted marshmallows on the campfire.

We made damper in the afternoon and cooked in the hot coals and talked about how indigenous people would have cooked their “bread” on an open fire.

The children also learnt about safety around fires and the importance of ensuring that a fire is completely out before leaving it. We finished off a very interesting and enjoyable day eating delicious damper with butter and jam.
