Description
Building resilience through rhythm – an evidence based social and emotional learning program.
This small group program gives children and Educators the opportunity to use rhythm and beat through drumming on Djembe Drums. The program gives participants the opportunity to practice social skills such as sharing, taking turns, teamwork and cooperation. It also supports the development of communications skills and playing helps with fine and gross motor skills. Feedback from past participants also suggests that drumming supports emotional wellbeing, it can release body tension and also improve confidence and self-esteem. It is also a way for Educators and children to have a lot of fun together.
Services can complete the program in a number of ways:
- Mildura, Swan Hill and Campaspe services will operate over the year with two visits each term. Both term 1 visits, Educators will work with the facilitator to gain a sound understanding of the drumming concepts and felt experience of participation. The remaining 6 visits will be in-session with small groups of children and Educators to co-facilitate). Total of 8 x 1hr visits.
- Bendigo services will commence with two sessions where Educators will work with the facilitator to gain a sound understanding of the drumming concepts and felt experience of participation – the remaining 6 sessions will be completed sequentially over the term. Bendigo services will then have the option of extending this program for another term/s. Total of 8 x 1hr visits term one – base program.
Extension – Additional 6 x 1hr visits during another term/s.
Services will be supported to purchase their own drums in order to embed and continue the learning.
